Week after week Tim Tebow and NdamukongSuh are hot button topics in the NFL. Tebow is the goody two shoes quarterback with a funky motion who just wins football games. Suh is a big bad defensive lineman for an upstart football team looking to make a name for themselves by any means necessary. The choice should be clear on whom to root for right? Not really, because Tebow still takes heat for winning and excuses are still being made for Suh's antics.
A two game suspension is what has been handed out to Suh for his actions against the Packers on Thanksgiving Day. Not since Albert Haynesworth stomped on the head of a player in 2006 have we seen a more vicious egregious act after a play. After initially denying what he did, Suh owned up to the matter on his Facebook page the next day. How did people respond? "Your still a great player, just young and still learning," said one fan. "You're an amazing person, don't let the critics second guess you and your style of play," said another fan. There are over 1,700 comments similar to these.
Since taking over as the starting quarterback this season, Tim Tebow has led the Broncos to a 5-1 record. His only loss this year is against Suh and the Lions. Tebow has four come from behind wins and has only turned the football over once during this run. However, when we talk about Tebow we don't talk about his record. We talk about his ugly throwing motion, slow 40 time and religious rhetoric. Broncos executive John Elway doesn't think he is a franchise quarterback and the action of "Tebowing" has become a mock on his personality and personal beliefs.
Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow (15) runs with the ball. The Detroit Lions defeated the Denver Broncos by a score of 45 to 10 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Denver, CO.
Football has been known as America's "tough guy sport," modern gladiators who go into battle every week. A player like NdamukongSuh gets a pass from the average fan because he's tough and everything we want out of prototypical football player. Tebow seems to get criticized because he's not the prototype. In an era of dogfighters, sexters and discharging guns in a club; are you sure you still want the prototypical NFL player? It's ok to root for the good guy, you just might enjoy it.
