2012 Pittsburgh Steelers Preview and 2011 Review

By SBRForum.com

The Steelers had a below average season by Pittsburgh standards last year, and they will be looking to reload and restock for another run at the AFC North. Their division is getting much better, and even the Browns might be a force to be reckoned with one of these days. NFL futures odds have the Steelers at +2000 to win the Super Bowl, and +950 to win the AFC. There are nine teams with better odds to win it all, including their divisional rival the Ravens, the Eagles, and the defending champs the Giants. Will Ben Roethelisberger be able to lead his team to another Super Bowl?

Pittsburgh finished a very good 12-4 last season, but it wasn’t even good enough to win their division, as the Ravens owned the tiebreaker. Some thought that the Steelers were a sleeper to win the Super Bowl last season, but they were upset by Tim Tebow and the Broncos in the wildcard round, 29-23 in overtime.

Pittsburgh was once again anchored by their outstanding defense, which was #1 against the run, and #8 against the pass. They were 1st in the NFL in points allowed, as they only gave up an average of 14.2 points per game in 2011.

This season will be difficult for the Steelers, as they are having some contract disputes with their top wide receiver and restricted free agent Mike Wallace, and they lost arguably their best cornerback, William Gay, to the Cardinals.

They also have a very tough schedule. Their division is arguably the best in the NFL and is surely the best in the AFC. They have some tough road games against out of division teams like the Broncos in Week 1, the Giants in Week 9, and the Cowboys in Week 15. They will be at least a ten-win team once again, but the Ravens are still the best team in their division in my opinion.
