The Super Bowl brings out all sorts of storylines. With two weeks leading up to the big game there's even more time for stories to be written. I can see it now "Bill Cowher will shave off his moustache if Steelers win!" Award winning journalism at its best.
The first "major" story to come out of Super Bowl XL is that Bill Cowher has decided the Steelers will wear their road whites. Why is it big news? I'm about as clueless as you. But we all know why Bill Cowher chose white. They match the color of their jock straps!
Even though the AFC is the home team for this Super Bowl they get to choose what jersey to wear. But since the Steelers have won three consecutive road games and have played so well why change the color of the uniform now? As much as Bill Cowher is saying he didn't think about the decision, he must like the streak they have going with the white jerseys. His reason is that this is another road game because it's in Detroit and they should appropriately wear their away jersey. Come on Bill we know it's because of superstition but you just don't want to admit it.
But do the white jerseys bring good or bad luck?
In the 1996 Super Bowl, the Steelers wore black and Neil O'Donnell sealed their fate with three interceptions. (Steeler fans better hope Ben doesn't get hurt of Tommy Maddox will be just as bad) But you can't say black is unlucky for them in the Super Bowl. In Super Bowl X, XIII, XIV they wore their black jerseys and won those game. However you can't say white is unlucky either. Who can forget the 1974 season when they had Mean Joe Greene and that Steel Curtain defense with a couple rookie wide receivers name Lynn Swann and John Stallworth on offense? (Well I can because that was way before my time. Google helped me pretend I remembered). But in that Super Bowl win they wore their whites.
So Bill thinks the whites will bring them the best luck. However I'm sure he didn't consider that Seattle is 10-0 this season wearing their blue jerseys.
