NBA Draft Profiles

1. SF Harrison Barnes
Similarity to: Kobe Bryant and Grant Hill
Breakdown:
Positives:
a. Top Notch Attitude
b. Unlimited Talent
c. Scores at will
d. Willing to share the ball and involve others
e. Excellent Basketball IQ
f. Supreme Athlete with superb fundamentals
g. Terrific Midrange Game

Weaknesses:
a. Needs to add strength
b. Weak from long range
c. Is he a killer?

Analysis:
Everyone’s analysis of Barnes is the same: he is a terrific kid who is perfect on paper and has every skill and fundamental in the book. His two on court weaknesses-a need to add strength and lack of three point shooting-can easily be addressed. However, there are concerns that he lacks the killer instinct to be a true NBA superstar. Is he the next Kobe Bryant or the next Vince Carter? Still, perhaps the killer in him will be unleashed against better college competition. If it is, he is the unquestioned number one pick in 2011.

Negatives:
a. Shaky shooting from long range
b. Lacks elite lateral quickness and athleticism

Analysis:
Kyle Singler is a great basketball player. He has excellent intangibles and fundamentals and combines that with a scoring repertoire and a distributor’s mindset. If he had elite athletic ability and lateral quickness he would be a surefire star but, as it is, he is almost sure to become a capable role player in the league.
