Dads Sometimes Say the Darnest Things

You know how sometimes your parents do crazy things? Or they'll say thing that will make you want to go hide behind a rock? It happens with everyone's parents. You just attribute it to old age or parents not being cool anymore.

Well Johnny Damon's dad, Jimmy, is a true parent. He had some strong but head scratching comments about the fate of the Boston Red Sox.

"Mark it down: It's going to be another Babe Ruth," Jimmy Damon told The News from his Florida home. "They sent Johnny off just like they sent off Babe Ruth. It's going to be another big, big mistake. They made the biggest mistake of their lives."

Did he just compare Ruth to Damon?? Ruth who's know for his sheer power and supersized image being compared to a guy who everyone is wondering what he'll look like with a haircut? Okay both probably have bagged som women in their time. They both went from the Sox to the Yanks. That's about all they have in common. But moving Ruth early in his career is not the same as moving Damon who may have had his best years already.

If the Yankees do win the World Series before the Red Sox, you'll just hear him say "Dad told you so. Dad's always right." He'll probably shake his finger. Then we'll never hear the last of it. Just like parents always like to do.
