Alex Levy eyeing a Ryder Cup spot after victory in Morocco

Winning the Trophee Hassan II is the perfect opportunity to help players get their careers back on track. Given the weakened field that arrives in Morocco each year, there is a chance for a big name to get back in the winner's circle. That exactly what Edoardo Molinari did last year.

Anyone that follows Edoardo Molinari on Twitter will see that he goes by the handle of @DodoMolinari. Dodo is obviously short for Edoardo, but last year, his career looked as dead as the Twitter nickname he goes by. The Italian arrived in Morocco to play in the Trophee Hassan II with his game and future in tatters. At 36, time looked to be running out for him to make his mark on the game.

That all changed with a birdie-eagle finish that got the Italian into a playoff with Paul Dunne. Molinari would hold his nerve during the first extra hole to win the playoff and end a seven-year win drought on the European Tour by winning the Trophee Hassan II.

Alex Levy was the latest player to get their career moving in the right direction again after winning in Morocco. It was the Frenchman's fifth win on the European Tour and moved him up to a career-high 47th in the world. Levy will be hoping European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn took notice and made a mental note as he begins to get an idea of who he wants in his team for later in the year.

Thomas Pieters was back on the European Tour but unable to make the impact he would have wanted after finishing in 66th place. Pieters has a big future in the game and was one of the favourites going into the week as Oddschecker found him at a best price of 22/1 to win. The big Belgian hitter will be eyeing the chance to play in back-to-back Ryder Cups but will have to wait a little longer until he's back in the winner's circle. For now, it is Levy who takes the advantage and steals a march on his fellow European Ryder Cup hopefuls.

Realistically, Pieters will be among the silverware at some stage this season. There isn’t as much of a guarantee as far as last years winner Edoardo Molinaro goes, and it wouldn't be out of place to suggest his Ryder Cup days are behind him, but this is a man who has the potential to bounce back out of the blue. Dodo Molinari, as he is affectionately known, will be out to prove this season that his game is alive and well.

However, it was Alex Levy who once again given a timely reminder that he is one of the most exciting prospects on the European Tour by winning in Morocco. As a passionate Frenchman, he will have a burning desire to represent team Europe at Le Golf National on the outskirts of Paris this year. That dream became more of a reality after victory in Morocco.
