Kent State, Northern Illinois Battle For MAC Title, Possible BCS Spot

The MAC Championship Game has never meant more than it does this week at Ford Field. On Friday night, the Kent State Golden Flashes and the Northern Illinois Huskies will duke it out in what will amount to be the most important game of the history of the conference.

The team that beats the college football odds in this one could be on their way to the BCS if enough goes right around them. Kent State has the easier road into the BCS, as it likely needs the UCLA Bruins or Florida State Seminoles to lose to get the job done. Northern Illinois probably needs a win, a loss by UCLA, and a loss by the Texas Longhorns. The goal for both teams is the same, as they want to get into the Top 16 in the BCS rankings. Kent enters the week at 17th, Northern Illinois at 21st.

Either way, the road to the MAC title is going to be a tough one for both teams. Both went 8-0 in conference play, and the two teams have combined for a whopping 19-4-1 ATS mark on the year as well.

QB Jordan Lynch has accounted for over 4,300 yards of total offense in 12 games, and he has 39 total touchdowns against just four INTs and a limited number of fumbles for the Huskies.

Toledo prefers to get the job done on the ground, as it has a pair of 1,000-yard rushers on the campaign, both of which have scored 14 times.

The last five meetings of these clubs have all gone to NIU both from an SU and an ATS perspective. Last year, the Huskies held down the Golden Flashes to just a total of 64 yards of offense in a 40-10 romp.

Northern Illinois opened up the week favored by 5 ½-points.
